Grilled deli sandwiches are sublime and are the perfect lunchtime comfort food. If you can make them lighter and more friendlier to the waistline, it just gets even better. As much as I love food, I have to stay healthy and watch my weight, so I am often adapting food, so that I can indulge in the flavors I love and stay on track. The New York Deli is a very easily adapted sandwich, as most of the flavor is in the sauerkraut, pickles and mustard. All health and weight friendly ingredients. Turkey pastrami and low fat Swiss lowers the fat content. Replace the bread with a high protein bread or low calorie sandwich pocket, depending on your eating plan.
WINE NOTE: It’s very rare that I would be eating this kind of lunch and drinking wine. I would generally have a glass of sparkling water or a light beer.
1 sandwich thin
2 slices of pastrami
1 slices of Swiss cheese (approx. 50 g)
3-4 tsp sauerkraut
1 pickled gherkin sliced
French’s American mustard

Place your pastrami, mustard, pickles, sauerkraut – then finish with a layer of cheese on the bread and add the lid.
