Hooters Style Buffalo Shrimp in the Air Fryer (King Prawn)

If you know me well or read this blog regularly, you will know that I love appetizers! Saturday nights is when we often chow down on several appetizers while watching a movie!! It’s so nice to share food and enjoy the flavors of several dishes. I think it would be my last request!!
I think one of the reasons I like eating this way, is it reminds me of fun hot nights in the Mediterranean with friends sharing food, or in fun pubs in the USA!!!
Hooters in Bayside, Miami was a place that I used to go with friends on a night out!! These shrimp were a knockout and went down well after a few cocktails!!! These days, I try to avoid deep-fried food, so I adapted this shrimp (UK King Prawn) so that I can cook it in the air fryer and keep it healthy. Using low-fat buttermilk spread in the sauce lightens it up too!!
Be sure to serve with Ranch Dressing!!

If you don’t have an air fryer, scroll down to the end of the recipe for buying suggestions. When you start cooing with one, you will not look back! Crispy panko fish? Done! Air fryer fries or sweet potato fries? Done!

WINE NOTE: An ice cold glass of Albarino is the only way to go with this! It’s the fire extinguisher that you can still taste and need!

  • 20 large shrimp, peeled, deveined (UK King Prawn)
  • SPICE BLEND:
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon American mustard
  • 2 teaspoons creole seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 tbsp parsley chopped to garnish

CORNMEAL MIX:
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons creole seasoning
1 teaspoon black pepper

BUFFALO SAUCE:
1/2 stick / 2 tbsp low fat buttermilk spread
1/2 cup / 125ml hot sauce (I used Franks Redhot)
1/2 lemon juiced
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Pre-heat the air fryer to 350F/180C

Blend the spices
Mix the egg and mustard together
Blend the cornmeal ingredients in a bowl

Dredge the shrimp in the spices then dip in the egg then the cornmeal.

Place in the air fryer for 2 minutes, then shake the shrimp to turn then cook for another 2 minutes.

Put the sauce ingredients into a saucepan and heat until the spread has melted and blended.

Toss the shrimp in the buffalo sauce and sprinkle with the parsley. Serve immediately.
